Blackberry Meadows farmer talks organic farming

Blackberry Meadows Farm

Started in 1989, Blackberry Meadows Farms practices organic farming. Founder of the farm, Greg Boulos talks about what it really means to operate an organic farm, how farmers revitalize soil and what the foods labeled “organic” on grocery store shelves really are. Created by Point Park University student Megan Bixler and Ralph Musthaler, photojournalist with the Salisbury Daily Times.

The story was created as part of the 2016 Multimedia Workshop hosted by Point Park University’s Environmental Journalism Program. The event brought together journalism professionals and students for collaborative work projects.

During the two-day workshop, students and their mentors were sent out to report on an assigned story topic focusing on the environment and public health, with the deadline set for 5 p.m. the next day. By visiting locations close to home, such as a future fracking site, a community farm and Point State Park, students were able to see the environmental issues and triumphs within their own community.
