An unnamed man led Pittsburgh Police on a high speed chase Wednesday night, cutting through the Strip District and Downtown before jumping into the Allegheny River and eventually dying.

The actual Carjacking occurred Monday in Lawerenceville, when police lost the vehicle.
An undercover officer spotted the vehicle Wednesday on Liberty Avenue and went on a high speed chase throughout Pittsburgh, ending with a head on collision around 9:15 p.m.

The stolen vehicle had three passengers. Two were immediately caught at the scene while the driver jumped over the Ft. Duquesne railing, through the 10th Street Bypass construction site and into the Allegheny River, dropping a firearm on the way.
Police pulled the man from the water at Point State Park twenty minutes later. All three men were immediately taken to Allegheny General Hospital. The two passengers had injuries but the extent is not yet known. The driver died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The motive for the carjacking and eluding police is not yet known.
